Composing

Composing

The first step in composing is brainstorming with the director and discussing in lenght what style of music would be interesting to explore. Capturing the vision of the director and the story at hand is the next step where I go out to my studio and develop tunes and sounds to present on the next meeting. From here on it's a close collaboration working up and down to define the music. When the picture is locked I start to use some of these elements and start to lay out the large arc of ideas needed to tell this story through music.

Orchestrating

Orchestrating

After writing melodic material at the piano, the next step is developing these tunes into compositions that match the project in style and sound that vary from a large symphonic skope to the more atmospheric and minimal approach.

Conducting

The final step is to perform the written music with musicians and ensembles. Finding the best musicians out there to add their talent to the project, leading the session and deciding which takes work best along the motion     pictures.
